Used for light to moderate pressure strokes when focusing on the mass of the muscle.
Frequently used in this area for focused work, especially around the attachments to the midline of the spine.
Light static or dynamic compression with this edge. Avoid excessive pressure as it can push the lumbar spine into extension.
- Can be overactive in many back problems.
- Not commonly a ‘fix’ for back pain to work these muscles in isolation.
- Sometimes these muscles are tight as a protective mechanism.
Avoid excessive compression of the spine when treating this area to prevent shear and excessive extension. Avoid working midline over the spinous processes.
