Frequently used for the main belly of the muscle using light to moderate pressure strokes.
Frequently used in this area for focused work, especially around the attachments to the spine and near the posterior shoulder.
Use this edge in the broad areas of the muscle. Static compression works well near the posterior armpit. Dynamic compression works well along the entire muscle.
- Largest muscle of the back.
- Attaches the lumbar spine to the shoulder.
- Commonly an issue in overhead athletes.
Avoid working deep in the armpit as there are many nerves in this area, especially along the humerus. Avoid excessive pressure at the attachments along the spine to limit extension stress on the lumbar spine.
